AK4388 - New DAC family delivers high quality sound for valued consumer products. New!

Tokyo, Japan, April 26, 2006—Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co., Ltd. (AKM), a leading supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, today launches the AK4387 and AK4388, low cost 192kHz 24-Bit DACs for DVD, DTV, digital STB and PVR applications. The new chips are part of AKM’s Audio4home^TM range.

The AK4387 and AK4388 succeed the industrial standard AK4384. The AK4387 is compatible with the register control mode of the AK4384 and the AK4388 has a compatible mode with the AK4384’s pin control mode. Both chips provide a more cost-effective solution, whilst maintaining the same performance compared with the AK4384.

The new DACs utilize AKM's advanced multi-bit delta-sigma modulator and the low jitter performance of AKM's switched-capacitor (SC) technology. The digital filter is a FIR filter with linear phase, which achieves high quality undistorted sound. Both chips have built-in de-emphasis filters, soft mute and zero detection functions. The AK4387 has channel independent digital attenuators, which can be register-controlled by uP interface. The AK4388 has LSB justified audio format and de-emphasis control, which aren’t supported by the pin-control mode of the AK4384. Both chips feature –90dB THD+N and 106dB S/N.
