Siliconix Releases First 20-V and 30-V N-Channel TrenchFET Gen III Power MOSFETs WithTurboFET TechnologyThe 20-V SiS426DN device offers the industry's lowest on-resistance times gate charge for a device with this voltage rating in the 3-mm by 3-mm PowerPAK® 1212-8 footprint. This key figure of merit (FOM) for MOSFETs in dc-to-dc converters is 76.6 m-nC at 4.5 V and 117.60 m-nC at 10 V for the SiS426DN, which features a low typical gate charge of 13.2 nC at a 4.5-V gate drive and 28 nC at a 10-V gate drive. EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - International Rectifier, IR® (NYSE: IRF), a world leader in power management technology, today announced its high performance point-of-load (POL) chipset for non-isolated , DC-DC buck converters has won the "Top 10 DC-DC Award" from Electronic Products China (EPC) magazine.
Delivering up to 80A in embedded networking and communications systems, POL regulator modules and high-density blade servers, the chipset is comprised of the IR3623 dual synchronous PWM control IC and IP2003A iPOWIR™ integrated driver-MOSFET power building block.
"It is gratifying to continue to receive such high praise from China's engineering community. IR product innovations, like this chipset, are at the leading edge offering designers the means to advance their product development roadmap while simplifying the power management design task," said Tim Phillips, vice president DC-DC Products.
The chipset can be configured to operate either as a high current (80A), single output converter, or as two independent 40A converters, switching 180 degrees out of phase. For example, in a 12V input, 1.75V output application with 500kHz switching frequency and a dual-channel configuration, the chipset achieves greater than 90 percent efficiency at 25A per channel without a heatsink. Compared to similar converters made with discrete power stages, the chipset requires 32% less board area as component count shrinks from eleven active devices to only three.
