NXP Semiconductors Introduces Industry’s Lowest Cost ARM9 with High Speed USB 2.0 OTG

02.10.2008 01:30 - Source: NXP

Providing embedded designers a cost effective, power efficient single chip solution for USB Connectivity

Today NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, announced the introduction of the LPC3130 and LPC3131 as the industry's lowest cost ARM9 microcontrollers with High Speed (480Mbps) USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG).

The NXP LPC3130 combines a High Speed USB 2.0 OTG, including PHY, and dedicated PLL, 180 MHz ARM926EJ, 96KB SRAM, NAND flash controller, flexible external bus interface, four channel 10-bit A/D and a myriad of serial and parallel interfaces in a single chip targeted at consumer, industrial, medical, and communication markets. The LPC3130 has a very flexible Clock Generation Unit (CGU) that provides dynamic clock gating and scaling optimizing the system for low power.

“With the LPC3130, embedded designers can now take advantage of the higher performance, lower cost, lower power consumption and small footprint in applications requiring flexible USB connectivity.” said Geoff Lees, vice president and general manager, microcontroller product line, NXP Semiconductors. “As always, we are committed to offering our customers the broadest range of choice available in 32-bit MCUs.”

High Performance, Low Power, Small Footprint and Low Price

Designed in 90nm process, the LPC3130 features 180 MHz ARM926EJ core coupled with 16-KB data cache and 16-KB instruction cache. The LPC3130 can boot from NAND Flash, SPI Flash, SDHC/MMC cards, UART, and USB. The integrated NAND flash controller provides error correction.

The LPC3130 has an 8/16-bit SRAM and SDRAM External Bus Interface as well as a Memory Card Interface capable of supporting SDHC, MMC/SDIO, and CE-ATA peripherals. Serial interfaces include SPI/SSI, 2x I2C, 2x I2S, UART and PWM interfaces. Rounding the feature set is a four channel 10-bit A/D, general purpose timers, WDT and GPIO. For those applications that require visual interaction, the LPC3130 integrates a 4/8/16-bit 6800/8080 compatible LCD interface. The LPC3131 has a total of 192KB of SRAM.

Availability

Packaged in TFBGA180 (0.8mm pitch), the NXP LPC3130 & LPC3131 will be sampling in October with production planned for end of 2008. Demos will be available at the ARM Developers conference in San Jose from October 7th-9th, 2008. Additional information on the NXP microcontroller products is available at: www.nxp.com/microcontrollers.
