Fujitsu Laboratories Develops Power-Saving CMOS Technology for 32nm-Generation and BeyondFujitsu Laboratories Limited announced today the development of power-saving CMOS technology for logic LSI chips for 32 nanometer- (32nm-) generation and beyond. The new technology enables employment of a specific silicon crystal surface, which previously had not been applied in silicon substrates due to the crystal surface's conventionally low performance in the past, by improving its performance. As a result, as a world's first, the technology makes it possible to use current 45nm-generation fabrication facilities to reduce LSI power voltage without lowering operation speed, thereby containing production costs and cutting LSI power consumption during operation by approximately 20 percent (20%). It is anticipated that the technology can be used in a wide range of applications, such as system LSIs for various mobile devices that will need to be increasingly multi-functional, and for microprocessors of which many are running with multiple processing cores. Nios II Evaluation Kit Receives Editor’s Choice and Reader’s Choice Awards for its FPGA Design Capabilities
San Jose, Calif., May 29, 2008—Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced its Nios®II Embedded Evaluation Kit, Cyclone®III Edition received two 2008 Tech Choice Awards, the Editor’s and Reader’s Choice Awards in the FPGAs and Tools category from eg3.com.
The Tech Choice Awards recognize innovative technologies and the companies that are making practical efforts to help engineers apply them. The awards process identifies key technology areas, including virtualization, embedded processors, embedded tools, FPGAs and tools, wireless, and MicroTCA.
The Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit is a feature-rich, low-cost platform that provides a fast and simple “hands-on” way for embedded designers to assess the Nios II processor and Altera®SOPC Builder system design software. The evaluation kit also allows developers to launch example applications that showcase networking, hardware acceleration, graphics and more with the touch of a finger. It also serves as an ideal development platform for software designers new to FPGA-based processors.
“After choosing from a list of companies and their products, it was clear that Altera’s Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit stood out as a great example of unique and innovative technology that provides interactive capabilities,” said Jason McDonald, eg3.com’s senior editor. “The Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit’s ability to showcase the unique benefits of designing with FPGAs clearly made it an Editor’s Choice and the readers agreed with a Reader’s Choice.”
“We are proud of this award and the recognition. Since announcing the Nios II Embedded Evaluation Kit, we’ve received a strong response from our customers,” said Chris Balough, marketing director for software, embedded, and DSP at Altera. “The rich set of applications from Altera and our partners, and the touch-screen interface, show the power of Nios II processors and enable designers to quickly put these designs to work within their own systems.”
