WiMAX World 2008, Chicago, October 1, 2008 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), a global leader in WiMAX-compliant broadband wireless technology, today released a new white paper on WiMAX system development and implementation. Entitled “Achieving Cost-Effective Broadband Coverage with WiMAX Micro, Pico and Femto Base Stations," the new white paper profiles the base station options that can enhance WiMAX deployment. It reviews how smaller base stations can apply scaled-down versions of WiMAX hardware for providing broadband wireless access to a variety of areas, from public locations in urban areas to isolated rural locations.
Various opportunities for expanded broadband wireless service based on the WIMAX standard are described, with a specific focus on the benefits of femto, pico and micro base stations. The white paper also details the new Fujitsu Microelectronics WiMAX SoC product offerings that are designed specifically to address the requirements of these emerging markets.
“Small base stations provide significant cost and performance benefits for service providers and their customers,” said Dean Chang, senior marketing manager, Fujitsu Microelectronics America. “This technical paper outlines the basic benefits and offers specific details on how service providers can ensure high data rates to end users without over-building the main WiMAX base station network.”
