Producers of business to business (B2B) WEEE will start paying for recycling three months earlier than producers of consumer WEEE.
“B2B waste and hazardous domestic waste will have to be recycled from April 1 2007,” Vic Clements of compliance firm Environ told
EW.
For information on WEEE in the UK see
here The Environment Agency said that with WEEE registration, all producers must have joined a compliance scheme before the April date. “Every company in the UK that manufactures, imports or re-brands electrical and electronic equipment is called a producer and will need to join an approved producer compliance scheme by March 15 2007,” said the Agency.
“To do this you will need to pay a registration fee to the scheme and supply data on how much electrical and electronic equipment you place on the market each calendar year,” said the Agency.
The hazardous household waste, which will be separated at waste transfer stations, includes ozone-depleting substances as in fridge/freezers, CRTs and fluorescent tubes. For full text of WEEE Directives see
here In turn, the compliance scheme must register its members with the agency before April 1 2007.
Producers will be responsible for financing the treatment, recovery and disposal of all WEEE from July 1 2007.
