RoHS-International Ltd., a New Zealand-based consulting company, has released a technical discussion paper on the China RoHS Environmental Friendly Use Period (EFUP). The paper, now available for download, discusses the issue of whether the EFUP is based on just the six RoHS substances and elements or whether it is based on the product as a whole.
In addressing this issue, the paper adds a technical interpretation to the English translations of the Draft EFUP Standards currently available and discusses the technical detail of the five different methods of determining the EFUP. The paper also addresses some of the commercial considerations and risks associated with having with having an EFUP that is too-long or too-short.
The paper’s author, Roland Sommer, is the principal consultant and managing director of RoHS-International. The paper builds on Sommer’s earlier reports on China RoHS. Sommer notes that this new paper, together with his earlier articles, contains all of the information necessary for complying with China RoHS.
