WEEE consultation final rush
The Department for Trade and Industry (DTI) has confirmed that the WEEE consultation period has seen a last minute rush.
The consultation comes to an end on October 17th and is the final opportunity for companies affected by the directive to offer feedback.
Overall there have been 48 consultation replies and around a third of these have been received by the DTI within the last ten days.
Jeanne Grey, from the WEEE implementation team, stated: "I think it would be fair to say that there has been a marked increase over the last couple of weeks and I imagine we will see a further increase as we near the consultation deadline on October 17th."
Since the consultation began the DTI has received 300 queries on a range of issues to do with the implementation of the directive.
Many companies have raised issues regarding the picking up, recycling and reuse of WEEE, with a number of trial schemes being run by electronics firms.
