The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI), an electronics industry group, has organized a SnPb Availability Task Group to address the needs of OEMs that are taking the lead exemption from (or those who products are of out the scope of) the European Union’s RoHS directive. The goal is to make sure high-reliability leaded BGA components will not be discontinued by parts suppliers.
The new group has scheduled a workshop to bring together OEMs and the BGA supply base on Wednesday, January 24 in or near San Jose. Watch the iNEMI website for further details on the meeting time and place.
The iNEMI task group will focus its efforts on ways to work with the BGA component suppliers (which will include integrated circuit as well as packing firms) to support SnPb-compatible BGAs, assist with questions of long-term reliability, and develop other solutions to address concerns.
